GENERAL RULES
-
It should make young people from self for this practice is becoming a habit.
-
Should be performed every month after 7-10 days of menstruation, as during the rule or in the days before it is normal that the breasts are more swollen or sore.
-
If you no longer have the rule or are pregnant, you have to perform self once a month, trying to always be on the same day of the month.
-
If you're breastfeeding you should do the same date each month of breastfeeding (so that the breasts are not full of milk).
-
If you wear breast implants is advisable to carry out self once a month. To do so effectively, you should ask your surgeon prior to help you distinguish the implant from breast tissue.
RISK FACTORS
-
Sex. Mainly occurs in women. It can also affect men but the likelihood is minimal.
-
Age. 60% of breast cancers occur in women over 60 years.
-
Genes. Two genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2, which can mutate to cause breast cancer.
-
Family history. When a first-degree relative (mother, sister or daughter) has had breast cancer doubles the risk of suffering from it. If a more distant relative (grandmother, aunt or cousin), the risk increases only slightly.
-
Menstrual periods. The sooner we begin menstruation (before age 12), the greater the risk compared with those who started later. Women with a late menopause (after 55 years) have a higher risk.
-
Lifestyle. Alcohol abuse, smoking, obesity, etc...
These are the situations where they should seek medical advice:
-
When there are changes in size or consistency of a breast to the other.
-
If alterations in the skin of the breast similar to orange peel or any other blemish, wrinkle or fold.
-
If the nipple discharge is not pregnant or breast-feeding a baby.
-
If there are changes in the nipple, or wounds appearing folds.
-
If you notice the presence of lumps in the breast or armpit.
-
If there are changes to a package or scar that had long ago.
-
Pain in the breast, the armpit or the pectoral region.
